Sorry, I’m super late on this Missoni post from Fashion’s Night Out. I’ll work on my consistency! Hopefully you all had a chance to snag some Missoni for Target stuff because I’m sure by now the collection is completely sold out. A friend and I went to the launch of the Missoni x Target pop up store in Bryant Park, NYC before it reached Target stores. On top of arriving an hour and a half early, we waited on a nearly 3 hour line to get in, then another hour line to pay after enduring the chaos inside. During the first two hours of the entire 2-floor store, I would say nearly everything sold out. With those prices, its no surprise. Here are a few of my favorite items that I got. Ta-ta!
Fall/Winter 2011 seems like a collaboration of very diverse trends into one huge, fashion overload (in a great way). First we saw jewel-toned hues, then the eclectic mixture of suede with leather, and of course combination of textured patterns everywhere. Now, designers all over are seeing spots! Everyone from Marc Jacobs to Stella McCartney is implementing polka-dots into their collections. Although we’ve seen it on the runways, it may be a little much for your daily ensemble to contain all pieces polka-dot; but add one dotted statement piece for a very well-rounded (pun intended) wardrobe!

The power of the t-shirt is probably the most underestimated item in one’s wardrobe. These simple luxuries can easily take you from day to night, or casual to formal. Being a college student, I live in t-shirts and find a high quality piece to be worth the investment. One t-shirt can translate to several appealing outfits. For instance – to class: pair with cotton leggings, for happy hour: pair with leather leggings, for a night out: tuck into a bandage skirt with pumps, to a bar: just add jean leggings and booties, to the office: layered underneath a blazer, hanging out with friends: loosely paired with denim shorts, the possibilities are endless. Here are my must-have t-shirts of the moment. From Top Left: UNIF fancy bones tee, $68, Karmaloop. / Diesel t-wings t-shirt, $75, SSENSE. / Tie Dye tunic, $18, Mikkat Market. / Marni short sleeve leather top, $606, The OutNet. / Obey the native triangle slub domain tee in burnt sienna, $34, Karmaloop. / Givenchy, jungle t-shirt, $405, SSENSE. / Ashish sequined silk t-shirt, $245, The OutNet. / Really a mermaid lennon sweater, $198, WildFox Couture / Alexander McQueen bead embellished cotton jersey t-shirt, $262, The OutNet.
As much as I am a fan of The Lovely Bones, this post is appropriately about the ongoing infatuation with skulls and skeletons in the fashion world, not the story about a pedophile. I began my love affair with skeletons in a high school art class, when I realized they were probably one of the best things I could draw, keeping it semi-realistic looking. There is something about the natural beauty of a skull, which is inevitably found in all of us, that mixes a rough exterior with an enchanting beauty. Thinking “skull“, of course the first designer that comes to mind is Alexander McQueen, but this boney masterpiece is becoming more and more prevalent throughout each season’s trends. Here are a few of my favorites.
1. DSQUARED2 skull t-shirt, $190, Shopbop. 2. Juicy Couture skull stud earrings, $45, Bloomingdales. 3. Rebecca Minkoff skull ipad case, $125, Shopbop. 4. Alexander McQueen black leather skull clutch, $1,195, My Theresa. 5. Your Eyes Lie floral skull tee, $34, Urban Outfitters. 6. Tokyo Milk skull shea butter soap, $11, Beauty.com. 7. Ilena Makri skull chevalier rose gold diamond ring, $3,735, Net-a-Porter. 8. Kosta Boda still life skull votive, $35, Bloomingdales. 9. Alexander McQueen leather and brass skull keyfob, $275, Net-a-Porter. 10. Alexander McQueen skull-print silk-chiffon scarf, $295, Net-a-Porter.
In spite of this unusually rainy, August, New Jersey weather – I figured today’s post could only be appropriate for rain-wear. As the cooler, fall months approach, the following items are definitely appearing more and more on college student shopping lists. I must add, that a good umbrella and fabulous pair of rain boots are definitely worth the investment. Stick to something basic and classic that you can wear throughout all seasons and you definitely will make great use out of your purchases!
1. Jimmy Choo chesire flat rainboots, $375, Saks Fifth Avenue. 2. Dolce & Gabbana leopard print pvc wellington boots, $325, Net-a-Porter. 3. Unless you live under a rock, you’ve heard about/are anticipating/anxiously awaiting/dying over the arrival of Missoni’s latest collaboration with Target. Bloggers everywhere have been taking this collection by storm with look books and creative sketches of what to expect; but finally, the 400-piece full assemblage has been unveiled. The collection’s entirety is priced from $3-$400, thus it would be foolish not to grab everything you can. Perfect timing for back-to-school shopping and apartment redecorating. But hurry, Missoni for Target is only in stores from September 13-October 22. Here are some of my favorite, must-have-need-to-get pieces.A college dormer’s dream come true. Folders and notebooks for class, decorative storage bins to replace those dull, plastic ones (store your hair products, last season’s shoes, textbooks, etc.), and trays for your jewelry and cosmetics.
I’m a huge fan of throw pillows. I tend to purchase plain, solid down comforters and adorn the rest of my abode in colorful mis-matched throws. Missoni for Target’s throw pillows are hundreds of dollars less than original Missoni Home throws. The tea cups are perfect, especially with their storage device; and I won’t even get started with the candles, I need them all.
They’re even launching handbags, clothing, shoes, and accessories! Love these rainboots to brighten up a gloomy day. I’m dying over the flats, scarf, and gloves. Hopefully socks with platform sandals will remain a trend this season because I certainly wouldn’t mind pairing such anklets with my new Grettta platforms. Side note: I love how they’ve opted to keep the original interior tags from the classic Missoni line.
These items are pretty self explanatory and totally necessary to implement into your daily routine. Absolutely obsessed with the travel bags and makeup cases, the tote is perfect for overnight trips or lugging around heavy school books, and I can not wait to have all of these make up brushes and bags in my possession. I’ve needed new brushes for several weeks now; I’m definitely glad I waited. Oh, and the shorts? Love.
I couldn’t think of a more perfect and chic gift for a celebration or night at a friends. Love the assorted gift tags, perhaps that suggests there will be boxes in all of those wild, fun, epitome-of-Missoni patterns?
In my mind, this is the Rolls Royce of the collection. Yes, I’m sure many of you are more excited for that amazing bicycle, but this luggage makes me want to hop on a plane and travel in style. The colors, the hardware, the pattern – perfection.
