The Lovely Bones

As much as I am a fan of The Lovely Bones, this post is appropriately about the ongoing infatuation with skulls and skeletons in the fashion world, not the story about a pedophile. I began my love affair with skeletons in a high school art class, when I realized they were probably one of the best things I could draw, keeping it semi-realistic looking. There is something about the natural beauty of a skull, which is inevitably found in all of us, that mixes a rough exterior with an enchanting beauty. Thinking “skull“, of course the first designer that comes to mind is Alexander McQueen, but this boney masterpiece is becoming more and more prevalent throughout each season’s trends. Here are a few of my favorites.

Possessions, Obsessions

Here’s my pick for this week’s top five Possessions and Obsessions. TheLouboutin’s may be a little out of reach, but there’s some special holidays coming up in my life (dare to dream). That golden nail polish is sort of a now or never thing, being that fall is rapidly approaching; but it certainly is the best hue of yellow notresembling fungus that I’ve ever seen. As you can tell by my possessions, I’m veryfall focused with my purchases of late. I can’t wait to get back to my leggings, and definitely get the best of both worlds with these leather-front-cotton-backed stems. Finally, if you have an at times, shiny face like mine – you NEED the oil absorbing mattifier. Trust me.

Clockwise from Left: Trové Fair Aisle sweater in Taupe/Walnut, Nordstrom / Yves Saint Laurent Arty Ring, SSENSE (item no longer available) / Murad Oil Control mattifier SPF 15, Beauty Bridge / Trouvé Faux Leather Front Leggings, Nordstrom / Rhinestone panel toggle bracelet in Red, Forever 21.

Oh Look, An Arm Totem Pole

Or arm party, whichever you prefer. Arm parties have been quite the trending topic for a while now, so this post was definitely a long time coming. Here are some of my current favorite bracelets; all affordable and definitely part of my birthday list. I could have got a lot crazier here, like oh I don’t know, the Cartier lurve bracelet. How cliche of me. Let me see your arm parties ladies (and gentlemen)! @Brittany_Ziemba

From Top: Mathiaz Chaize Bonnie & Clyde bracelet, Net-a-Porter / Alexander McQueen Swarovski crystal double skull braceletNet-a-Porter / Whistles Chunky Chain & Suede bracelet, Asos / Jennifer Zeuner integrated number bracelet in 13, ShopBop / Mr. Kate Worm cuff in rose gold, MrKate.com / DANNIJO Jaimere bracelet in ‘BJZ’, Dannijo.com.

(Less Than) A Dozen Roses

Rose gold is very applicable to the whole “Chic Street” image I’m trying to portray. It adds a reviving twist to standard yellow gold while remaining exuberantly feminine. These structured angles and boxy corners boast an edgy style.

1. Alexander Wang jade stingray leather and suede wristlet, SSENSE 2. Brian Atwood maniac metallic leather pumps, Net-a-Porter 3. Jennifer Meyer wishbone earrings, Barneys NY 4. Eddie Borgo spiked urn necklace, Net-a-Porter 5. Dominic Jones pyramid ring, Net-a-Porter 6. Ileana Makri safety pin pendant, Net-a-Porter 7. Michele “jetaway” triple link watch, Bloomingdales 8. Proenza Schouler PS1 large suede handbag, Barneys NY

Ring, Ring! Ring.

First came “arm parties,” a collection of bracelets adorning the wrist, now fashionistas everywhere are connecting bracelets to fingers and stacking rings to the tips of their limbs. We’ve seen snakes being worn as jewelry for quite some time now, but this season designers are bringing household items, such as screws and bolts, to life on your hands. Another reason I favor this trend is the mixture of color and texture. Here are some of my favorites.
